Leading mechanical contractors Haden Young specified Euro Air Systems Ltd for the prestigious new Selfridges Department Store in the new Bull Ring Developement in Birmingham city centre. The new store is being viewed as a highlight of the project with its dramatic outer “skin” being made up of 15000 spun aluminium discs. The interior of the store promises to be just as dramatic with leading interior designers Stanton Williams, Aldo Cibic and Eldridge & Smerin all involved.
The project required eight Air Handling Units to service the sales areas and three units to service other areas of the installation including store areas and staff rooms.
The eleven units required for Selfridges were supplied ready made up for quick and efficient on site installation, tested in the Euro Air factory to erradicate any on site problems, before being delivered to site. Euro Air were also responsible for the site installation and insitu testing prior to the commissioning of the units.
Each supply and extract sales Air Handling Unit is designed to handle 16 cubic metres per second, as specified by project consultants Ove Arup. The specification also required on site testing to prove leakage rates of the installed Air Handling Units.
